Mirror

Mirror Selected creates a static copy; Mirror Linked creates a mirror that updates when the source is edited.

AdaShape provides two mirror operations. Both reflect the selected object across the red X axis. The difference is what happens after you mirror.

Mirror Selected

Mirror Selected creates a static, independent copy reflected across the X axis. The mirrored copy has its own geometry. Editing the original has no effect on it. Use Mirror Selected when you need a one-time reflection and expect to work on each half independently.

Mirror Linked

Mirror Linked creates a reflection that stays connected to the source. When you edit the source object — adjusting its shape, dimensions, or structure — the mirrored copy updates to match. You see both halves respond in real time.

Use Mirror Linked when you are building a symmetric model and want to edit only one side. Model the left half, mirror it linked, and every change you make propagates to the right automatically. When the design is final, you can freeze the linked mirror to a static mesh if you no longer need the connection.

Workflow: symmetric modeling

  1. Model one half of the object, centered so that one side sits on or near the X axis.
  2. Select the object and apply Mirror Linked.
  3. Continue editing the original. The mirrored half updates with every change.
  4. When the shape is complete, freeze the mirror if you need a single unified mesh.
